I was going to meet a friend at the mall but schedules didn’t really line up. I decided to drop by later anyway and to see if I could catch her. After thoroughly scanning the store we had discussed, I ventured to a few other logical places. No luck. I poked my head into a few other stores that caught my eye before heading back. As I retraced my steps half-heartedly scanning for my friend, I heard my name. Like my full name. I’m creative but I also have really good ears. No way I imagined that. “Morgan” - I know that voice. Scanning in rapid discreet mode, I still couldn’t find the person. Then my eyes clicked. A different friend was standing directly to my left only a few feet away. (She was not there when I surveyed the store the first time.) In my rapid scanning I had searched further in the store, all the way to the back wall (because that’s logical.) But I had missed who was right in front of me. How often are we straining, looking so far beyond that we miss what is right under our noses?
